Thielke took a big step toward having that opportunity after winning the FILA Junior Nationals Greco-Roman competition on Thursday night at the Cleveland Public Auditorium.

Evan Henderson (No. 5 @ 140) should be the favorite heading into his Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic match.

Just don’t tell him that.

Henderson, who is from New Florence and wrestled for United before transferring to The Kiski School three years ago, became the first local wrestler to compete in the main event of “The Rose Bowl of Wrestling” since Meyersdale’s Michael Warnick in 1989.

And Henderson likely will have his hands full with Cam Tessari (No. 1 @ 140), a four-time Ohio

Richie Bliss (No. 7 @ 103) Mission Accomplished with State Title

Richie Bliss (No.7 @ 103) had a weekend to remember. On Friday, he became the first Hernando County grappler to collect 100 pins. On Saturday, he added one pin and nearly another.

More importantly, the end result produced Springstead's first-ever three-time state champion tying the county standard set by Hernando High's Addison Chipoletti (2003-05).

On Saturday, Bliss pinned Melbourne sophomore Joe Miuccio in 73 seconds before solving Harmony's Ariel Dominguez for the second time in

An undefeated New England heavyweight champion last year for the Hillies, Jean-Jacques is shining on a larger scale for Wyoming Seminary.

John Fahy (H.M. @ 125) Three time Kentucky State Champion

John Fahy's (H.M. @125) dominance continued, but the Trinity High School wrestling program's statewide reign came to an end Saturday.

Behind four individual winners, Union County captured the State Wrestling Championships team title in front of 4,270 fans at the Frankfort Convention Center.

Trinity junior Fahy and St. X senior John Lampe (160) backed up their No. 1 rankings with state titles. Eastern senior Kyle Durbin pulled off a bit of a surprise, beating previously unbeaten and

Jason Tsirtsis (No. 2 @ 140) Crowned Indiana's State Champion

P.J. Montgomery’s third trip to the Indiana state high school wrestling finals ended the same late Saturday night as his second trip had a year ago.

But at least this time he got to wrestle under the lights, losing the championship match at 140 pounds by a 15-5 score to Crown Point’s Jason Tsirtsis (No.2 @ 140).

Saturday’s win was the third in three seasons for the Crown Point junior, just the 32nd Indiana high school wrestler to win three championships three times and still

Danny Sabatello (HM @ 125) Defeats Eddie Klimara (No. 5 @ 125) for Illinois State Title

The Class 4 125-pound state wrestling championship match Saturday at Mizzou Arena began with Dixon slamming Crane to the mat three times. Each loud thud of Crane’s body against the mat seemed to send the same message: "Welcome to the finals."

The moment had finally arrived, and Cody Brewer (No. 8 @ 130) — who had been downplaying it all week — couldn’t help but yell.

And pump his fist.

And leap into the arms of his older brother, Dustin.

Yes, becoming a four-time state champion means plenty to Brewer, a senior 130-pounder from Oak Park who became only the 20th wrestler in Missouri history to accomplish the feat thanks to his 9-3 victory over Grant Leeth of Kearney on Saturday.

Garcia (140 pounds) learned just prior to his final's match that Windsor had mathematically secured the team title thanks to a Broomfield loss in the finals, but his reaction to his second-consecutive state title was anything but laid back.
